In this article I will try to answer at some questions which arise when you are thinking to install an irrigation system.

Aren’t all sprinkler systems the same?

With any product or service there are always different brands of quality. Be careful, there are a lot of consumer grade products on the market. Shall I install an irrigation sprinkler by myself?

Yes and … no. If you do it yourself you will enjoy it (100% sure), you will understand the system very well and it will be cheaper BUT it will take longer time than if a contractor will do it for you, it will require hard work and most probably you will not design and set up the system as well as a long time experience contractor.

How long will it take to install a sprinkler system?

How much a sprinkler system costs?

- The type of the sprinkler system needed – it can be a low cost sprinkler system (as little as $20) or a high price one. Of course you get what you pay for. A low cost sprinkler usually wastes a lot of water; require turning the water on/off manually and moving the sprinkler around the yard to guarantee that entire area is properly watered. On the other side, an automatic underground lawn sprinkler system costs more, but it is completely programmable; what you have to do is to set up the timings and the system will turn on/off the system at certain times.

There are a lot of companies ready to customize the irrigation system for your needs. If you do not have a lot of experience in this field, it’s wise to request a quote from a sprinkler company.

We live in the northern portion of New Jersey. Our lawn care provider, Scott Lawn Services, applied Turf Builder Pro Winterizer on Dec. 10, 2007 and insisted that the timing was appropriate, even though we had measurable snow on Nov. 10,18, Dec 2, 4, and 5. I am wondering if our lawn can really benefit from it as suggested.

In the recent movie “Fun With **** and Jane” starring Jim Carrey, one of the bad-luck things that happens to **** and Jane as a result of **** losing his job is that the landscaping is reposessed. Which led me to think the other day, how do you get landscaping on credit? Assuming that they did not put it on their credit card, or get a home equity loan (because a credit card company or a bank, I would think, would not reposess landscaping; rather, they would force payment on the card or note through bankruptcy or foreclosure on the collateral), my thought is that they must have had credit with a landscaping company and were paying a monthly payment, which, when they couldn’t afford the payments anymore, was reposessed. So, is this really possible, or do you think this was just done for comedy’s sake for the movie? Anybody ever heard about having landscaping done on credit through a landscaping company? If this option is for real, my yard could really use it…. Thanks!
Yeah, I thought it seemed like a stretch. The reposessed the in-ground flowers, shrubs, plants, newly-planted tree saplings, and grass. Any thoughts anyone?

live in Austin TX which is a zone 8-9 climate. I have the following trees, shrubs and plants in my landscape.

Cherry Laurels, Magnolia, Leland Cyprus, Sego Palms, Crotons, Crepe Myrtles, Italian Cyprus, Fountain Grass, Box woods, loriapi, jasmine, Oak Trees, and a bunch of other shrubs.

How often should and how long should I be running my automatic sprinklers?

I want to start a lawncare company. I am trying to get everything going by 01/07 so that I strat the new year off….Any suggestions??
