Panama City landscaping can be a joy to behold, and a chore to maintain. Here are some tips for becoming a Panama City landscaper.
The best time to plant trees is during the Spring and Fall months. This avoids the stress of the hot Summer and random frosts of Winter.Panama City landscaping can be arduous work, it is a job that is surely within in the capabilities of the usual homeowner.
Here are some info to get you started.
To begin, the right tools are required. These are comprised of a shovel (“tree” shovels work very great) a wheelbarrow, a water hose, a “hard tined” rake, soil amendments and time release fertilizer. A set of gloves would also be a good thing to have if you are not acclimated to working with outdoor tools.
Mainly when planting trees or large shrubs, choose an area that will not be damaged by the continued growth of the tree. Be aware of power lines overhead and abstain from planting to close to structures, sidewalks or sewer lines. As the tree grows larger, its root system could cause damage to any underground or nearby buildings.
Once the area is chosen, it is time to dig the hole for the tree.
The top of the tree’s root ball should be between 2 to 3 inches above level grade. The tree hole should be two times as wide as the tree’s root ball. This provides loosened soil for the tree to develop roots in, it also permits you to add in your soil amendments to the tree. When unsure as to how large to dig the hole, it is smart to lean to the side of deeper. This is because it is easier to add more dirt back in the hole to raise the tree than it is to try to dig under it to get it deeper.
When digging the hole place the dirt in a ring right along the edge of the hole. This ring will become the “tree well” after the tree is planted. The tree well will help hold water as the tree becomes established.
Once the tree is planted at the correct depth, look at it from multiple angles to make sure it is straight. Fill in the hole and add any amendments to the soil.
Once the hole is filled in, turn on the garden hose and push it into the loose soil around the tree. What you are trying to accomplish is the removal of air pockets around the tree that could hinder root growth.
The last task is to apply mulch around the tree planting. Avoid using cypress mulch as over-harvesting in the South East is leading to wet land destruction. Use renewable types of mulch such as pine straw or bark.
Finally, go get something to cold to drink and admire your new Panama City landscaping tree!
